Sustain lessons learnt - NMA
Kwara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) yesterday applauded the WHO declaration, but urged Nigerians to sustain the lessons learnt during the battle against Ebola, especially on hygiene.
Chairman of the association, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, said while briefing newsmen on the association's physicians' week that it was very important to prepare for an outbreak. "In terms of preparedness, you don't wait to respond," he said. Aremu hails victory .
Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and General Secretary, National Union of Textiles, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) Comrade Issa Aremu, yesterday, commended the federal government for the measures it took to curb the Ebola virus in the country. Aremu in a statement described as cheering, news of the WHO declaration and urged the government to apply same approach to eradicate polio, malaria and cholera.
He said: "We are delighted with the cheering news. This is a credit to Nigeria and all Nigerians. We commend the efforts and measures taken by the federal government, state governments, particularly the Lagos State government and all stakeholders to curb the spread of the disease in Nigeria. It is a mark of good governance that Nigeria applied a bi-partisan national approach to curtail an epidemic without a cure and record a globally acclaimed achievement." He however warned that Nigeria's victory cannot be sustained if the disease continued to ravage other West African countries, saying, Nigeria must give necessary support to those countries. "We are not safe unless our neighbours are safe," he added.
