Overhaul security system, Rtd Gen urges

Date: 2014-10-12

security expert, Gen. Hassan Aribito (Rtd) has canvassed for overhauling of Nigeria security system with a view to achieving a secured nation.

Aribito gave the advice in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, while speaking at the second anniversary of Ibagun Youth for Moral and Community Development.

His words: "If the nation's security system is overhauled, it would go a long way in addressing the security challenges facing the country".

He also advocated the introduction of state police as one of the best strategies to achieving a secured nation.

The retired general blamed the security challenges facing the nation on "lack of socio-cultural and communal value system, youth unemployment, ethno-religious conflict, proliferation of arms, corruption and government's failure to provide basic social amenities for the people".

According to him, no meaningful development could take place in any unsecured nation "because funds meant for infrastructural development would be spent on restoration of security."

"Security of any society is the collective responsibility of all. Nigerians should be security conscious at all times," he urged.
