The academy, which was established by Governor Bukola Saraki in 2005 to hunt for young talents in the game of soccer is beginning to yield positive results with the signing of a product of the institution to commence professional football.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, which was witnessed by the Secretary General of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Musa Amadu, the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Dr Amuda Kannike who expressed great delight at the development, said the vision for establishing the academy was being realized.

While thanking the governor for his support to the academy, he also disclosed that the State Government was making frantic efforts at scouting for talents in other sporting activities apart from football with a view to making the State a hub in sports development.

Also speaking, the Secretary General of NFF, Barrister Musa Amadu commended the governor for his vision at establishing the academy which he said had remained a model in the country.

He charged the player to be a good ambassador of the academy, the State and the country in Europe and assured the academy of adequate support from the NFF.

In his remark, the Administrator of the Football Academy, Mr Kunbi Titiloye disclosed that the signing of AbdulTaofeeq was the first contract for professional soccer by the academy and expressed appreciation to Dr Saraki for his unflinching support.

He said the only way forward to enhance football in Nigeria is to develop the youths, pointing out that apart from AbdulTaofeeq, nine other boys would be travelling to Europe for professional football in the next two weeks.
