Date: 2014-10-06

Senator Gbemisola Saraki, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara on Friday donated four buses and food items worth N5 million to members of an Ilorin-based Islamic organisation.

Saraki made the donation at the national headquarters of Jamu'hiyat Qulumal Lillahi Yah'alu Society of Nigeria in commemoration of the 2014 Eid-li-Kabir festival. She is the first daughter of the late 'strongman of Kwara politics', Dr Olusola Saraki, In her speech the former senator, who represented Kwara Central at the Senate from 2003 to 2011, urged the Islamic body to continue to preach peace and love in Nigeria.

She said the two ingredients were essential for the continued existence of Nigeria as a nation.

Saraki urged the organisation to make judicious use of the buses. NAN reports that the items include 5,000 specially packaged food items and medium-sized bottles of vegetable oil.

Members of the organisation were visibly elevated as they sang praises of the donor.

In his response, the leader of the Islamic body, Sheik Mohammed Atayeise, said it was the first time such donation was extended to the group since its establishment five years ago.

He commended the senator for the buses and gift.
