Date: 2014-09-24

No fewer than 172 players are currently undergoing screening at the Kwara Football Academy ahead of the next session.

Kayode Alakija, the Special Assistant to the Administrator of the academy, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He said 110 players were registered for the screening in the senior category, while 95 and 67 were registered for the exercise in both the intermediate and junior categories, respectively.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the screening exercise, which began on Monday, is expected to end on Saturday.

The Administrator of the institution, Mutiu Adepoju, also told NAN that players will only be admitted into the school on merit.

He said that KFA would continue to create opportunities for players and also equip the young players for other careers beyond the playing pitch like sports management.

Adepoju said that the academy had the facilities to cater for the promotion of the young participants' wellbeing to achieving a balance between education and sporting.

NAN reports that the KFA is already earning international reputation with the production of top class stars that are doing well in the international and local leagues. (NAN)
