Kwara Gov Warns Politicians Against Thuggery
Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has warned political leaders to desist from recruiting youths to foment trouble.
Ahmed said rather than arm the youths with guns and machetes, they deserve good employment in order to guarantee their futures.
He gave the warning at a security summit organised by the Ilorin Emirate Descendants' Progressive Union (IEDPU).
President of the union, Alhaji AbdulHameed Adi said, "Our concern as a people is on the astronomical growth of insecurity in the emirate, the dimension it is assuming, the inhibition to free movement, the rate of spread across all divides and the impact on safety of lives and property, development and investment".
The governor, who declared the summit open, attributed the spate of insecurity to the breakdown of family, social and religious values. He charged parents to inculcate good values in their children.
In his address, chairman of the occasion and Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniy Ambali, attributed the current security challenges in Ilorin to lack of parental guidance.
Ambali advocated research into the immediate and remote causes of youth restiveness with a view to addressing socio-cultural challenges confronting Ilorin emirate.
