FG policies can't stop food importation -Oyedepo
The Chancellor of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State, Bishop David Oyedepo, has said there is no Federal Government's policy that will stop people from importing food.
He stated that food insecurity is the greatest problem confronting Nigeria.
He spoke on Wednesday during a media conference on the maiden convocation of Landmark University in Omu Aran, Kwara State.
Our prayer is that God should give our leaders the wisdom and direction in dealings with where our problems are, as we are faced with enormous problems. Food shortage is one of the greatest problems confronting us now. No amount of policy can stop people from importing food," he said.
Oyedepo, who is also founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, appealed to Nigerian leaders to overhaul government policies and programmes towards the development of agriculture.
He stated that the development of agriculture would reduce high unemployment rate and insecurity in the country.
"What the people of the country need this time around is abundant food and once this is done, high rate of unemployment will be reduced drastically.
"On this three-in-one gap, we can establish the disruptive connect with our unemployment challenges, pervasive social crisis, non inclusive economic growth and our national security nightmare," Oyedepo said.
According to him, Landmark University has the vision and a mandate to stimulate an agrarian revolution to achieve food security for the country and Africa.
The Chancellor said 386 students would graduate in 13 academic programmes of the institution.
He added that 39 would graduate with First Class, 186 in Second Class Upper, 152 in the Second Class Lower while nine would pass out with Third Class.
