Six remanded for alleged public disturbance

An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Friday remanded six people in Prison custody for alleged criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, causing grievous hurt, culpable homicide and unlawful possession of firearm.

The accused persons were Abudlrasheed Isiaka, Lukman Adesegiri, Abdulazeez Yahaya, Abdulganiyu Abdulazeez, Abdulazeez Opeyemi and Babatunde Iyanda all of Ilorin, Kwara.

They were arraigned on six charges of criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, mischief, causing grievous hurt, culpable homicide and unlawful possession of firearm.

Prosecutor Nasiru Yusuf said the accused persons were arrested on June 16 after a clash between suspected thugs from Alore/Omoda/Alausa Areas, on Omoda Area, Ilorin, by 'C' Division Police Station.

Yusuf said the accused persons conspired and armed themselves with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, guns and charms and engaged in free for all.

He told the court that the accused persons callously and viciously attacked and wounded an Air Force Officer and two vigilante members.

The prosecutor said that during the exchange of fire, two of the miscreants were shot.

He said police investigations revealed that the accused persons were political thugs terrorising the innocent members of the public.

Yusuf said the accused operated within Alore, Oloje, Ode-Alausa, Omoda and its environs by means of extorting money and threatening the lives of the public.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Ibrahim, remanded them in prison and adjourned the case till July 3 for mention.
