WAUG: UNILORIN students demand compensation

Date: 2012-05-10

Students of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Ilorin, Kwara State, who were asked by the authority to vacate their rooms in the hostels during the West African Universities Games (WAUG), hosted by the university recently are demanding for inconvenience allowance.

The students, who made this demand at the students' union congress, alleged that the university subjected the affected students to inconvenience which, they said, affected their welfare and academic state while the event lasted.

The university, according to them, had ejected some students out of their hostel to accommodate the participants in the sporting events, who came in from several universities within the West African region.

Ahmed Raji, a 400 level student of the Department of Finance and Accounting said it will not be wrong if the affected students are adequately taken care of as compensation for their 'ugly' experiences during the event. He therefore, tasked the students' union officers to take up their case with the appropriate authorities.

The students also charged the students' union leaders, whose tenure would soon be expire to leave a legacy of prudence and accountability.

The Union President, Surajudeen Musa, who appreciated the students for the massive turnout recorded at the congress, said his administration has tried within its limited capacity to serve the union with diligence and sincerity.
