Presidency plotting Saraki's removal - APC
The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday said it had uncovered a plot by the Presidency to remove the former governor and Senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
The party alleged that it reliably gathered that the Presidency was desperately in search of a judge that could be induced to deliver a judgement to remove Saraki. The plan, according to the APC, is to re-open the case between Saraki and former Senatorial aspirant of PDP, Alhaji Azeez Jimoh, who led a delegation of PDP elders and political office holders from the state to visit President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.
During the visit, Jonathan declared that the PDP would "recapture" all its stolen mandates in Kwara before and during the 2015 elections. However, the APC in a statement by its interim Director of Publicity, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, recalled that the Abuja division of the Appeal Court had upheld the judgement of the Federal High Court delivered by Justice Ibrahim Auta which confirmed the election of Senator Bukola Saraki as the senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District and dismissed the case filed by Alhaji Jimoh.
According to the APC, "Justice Moshood Adumein ruled that Saraki's nomination in the 2011 primary election was in total compliance with Section 33 of the Electoral Act".
"The question now is, what is the Presidency's interest in the matter before the apex court, if not an act of impunity and lawlessness?" it said, adding, "Our legal system and jurisprudences are not different - when a case is bad, it is bad. The two lower courts could not have erred".
The party warned against rubbishing the reform of the judiciary which the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Aloma Mukhtar had achieved.
