Cleric flays Jonathan's anti-graft crusade, others

Date: 2014-01-12

BISHOP of the Methodist Diocese of Kwara, Rt. Rev. Obafemi Adeleye, has said that no seriousness has been shown by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in fighting corruption and tackling insecurity in the country.

Speaking yesterday after he was enthroned the Bishop of the Diocese at the Cathedral of Blessing in Ilorin, Adeleye, who described corruption as a major problem hindering development of the country, lamented Jonathan’s approach to fighting the menace.

“The President seems to be showing no concern about the situation in which we have been found with corruption in the country. He should sit down and come up with ideas needed to improve the situation,” he advised.

Adeleye also saw efforts of the government at addressing the security problem as unimpressive, saying there is nothing to show for the money the government said it has expended on the matter.

He said though the security problem seems to be more prevalent in the northern part of the country now, it could spread to other parts in similar degree if not checked on time. He advised that the government should “prepare for the unknown future.”

The clergyman also advised the government to take a decisive decision in putting an end to kidnapping problem, which he said, is doing serous harm to the country’s image.

The new Methodist bishop urged the government to address employment problem among the youth, advising that entrepreneurial courses should be introduced in the school curricula to prepare the youth for self-employment after school.

He urged politicians to play politics without bitterness as they are preparing for the 2015 general elections.

Earlier in his sermon at the service, the clergyman urged members of the diocese to be supportive in the task of spreading the gospel, wining more souls for Christ and making the dioceses more progressing.

The enthronement service, which was led by the Archbishop of Ilesa Archdiocese, Charles Oderinde, was attended by clerics and members of the Methodist Church from across many dioceses in the country.
