Date: 2012-05-01

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has invited investors, especially Kwarans in Lagos to come home and contribute to the industrial growth and economic development of the State.

Ahmed, who made this call during an interactive session with Kwara professionals in Lagos over the weekend, was also voted City People Magazine's Best Governor in the North Central Zone during the fifteenth installment of its annual awards also held over the weekend.

The Governor, who was conferred with the Distinguished Professional Award by the Kwara professionals in recognition of his contribution to Agricultural development in the State and his faithful implementation of the shared prosperity agenda, assured prospective investors in the State that allied sectors vital for industrial growth such as education, infrastructure and human capital development were receiving utmost attention. He said an international Vocational Center would be established at Ajasse-Ipo to train high level quality technical personnel not only for the industrial sector in the State, but the international community as well.

"It is disheartening that Nigerians now look up to other west Africa brothers for some technical jobs because they have better expertise than our people This will change when the institute takes off in earnest", the governor said.

The governor said his administration's pursuit of development of agriculture in the state was borne out of the conviction that it has potentials of enhancing economic power base of the people and the creation of vast employment opportunities for the people.

He urged Kwarans outside the State to partner his administration on the development of the State.

Responding, chairman of Kwara Professionals in Lagos, Prince Kolade promised that as professionals in all fields of human endeavour his members have volunteered to partner with the government in the development of the State.

Also at the weekend, City People Magazine conferred the Outstanding Governor Award, North Central zone on the governor.

The City People Best Governor in North Central Zone Award on Governor Ahmed was received on his behalf by the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, who dedicated the award to the people of Kwara and invited all to come to Kwara and take advantage of the government's Shared Prosperity Programme.

The Distinguished Professional Award from Kwara Professional in Lagos and City Peolpes' Best Governor Award in North Central Zone brings to four awards and honours conferred on Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed less than a year in office.

He had earlier been voted Best Governor in Northern Nigeria by Global Excellence Magazine and Outstanding Agricultural Development Icon of Year 2011 by the African Leadership Magazine, organizers of the African Development and Industry Awards which took place in Washington DC, United States of America last month.
