The wife asked for her six year old marriage to be dissolved.

An Ilorin Area Court on Monday dissolved a six-year-old childless marriage between Fausat and Jimoh Malik.

The President of the court, Yusuf Abdulkareem, said the court had no option than to dissolve the union since the estranged couple consented to it.

He immediately issued a certificate of divorce to both Fausat and Jimoh, who got married in 2008.

The former wife, 34-year-old Fausat, a resident of Osere area in Ilorin, had approached the court to dissolve the marriage because of her infertility.

Fausat had told the court that her husband was too harsh and aggressive to her because of her condition.

"My husband is fond of abusing me that I'm childless and also threatened to divorce me if I failed to conceive.

"My lord, I want an end to this marriage because my husband is making life so difficult for me. He also maltreats me," she said.

Malik, however, did not object to the dissolution of the marriage, saying "she is free to go."

"I'm tired of wasting money on a marriage that has nothing to show for such investment."
