Saraki is a listening leader - Amao
Can we meet you sir?
My name is Akeem Amao. I am from Ojoku, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State. I am a business man (Real Estate and Auto D ealer) formally based in the United Kingdom and I relocated back to Nigeria over two years ago in pursuit of the purpose.
I spent the entire beginning of my life in Kwara State, my primary school was in Biodun Nursery & Primary School, and my secondary education was in Offa Grammar School rounded off my tertiary education in Nigeria with HND Marketing from Kwara State Polytechnic.
I proceeded to earning a postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership CMI UK.
Finally, topped it up with an MBA from University of Gloucestershire.
I am also a chartered manager with Chartered Management Institute UK as MCMI. I also have a prince 2 project Management qualification.
What informed your decision to join politics?
The dire need for transformation and improvement of the economic situation, as well as to inspire the youths to take their rightful positions as leaders in the society.
I want to lead, thereby paving way for a change in the mindset of the youths that there can truly be a politician who has their interest at heart.
If you are given the opportunity to serve, what do Kwarans and Nigeria stand to gain?
My total commitment, which will be fairness and devotion that will enhance an outstanding performance. My uncommon leadership ability and skill borne out of genuine love for my people. A deserving immense transformation and growth, engaging the SMART approach that would prompt the change we have been yearning for.
What has been your contributions to the people of your area?
When I joined CPC, the opposition party was neglected by its leaders. So I took it upon myself to assist the party. My contribution to mention but few included paying salaries to all the 16 local govt chairmen, women leaders, executive committee and a few other staff of the party.
I renovated the then CPC secretariat, helped with the purchase of forms which was later halted by a few members of the party. I would rather the party members tell you than myself. I don’t appreciate blowing my own trumpet
What’s your take about the recent defection of five PDP Governors to APC.?
I have been opportuned to read a few of their interviews and press releases and they seem determined to salvage our dear country Nigeria. For Nigerian politics, I will say categorically that it is healthy for our democracy if their purpose is actually followed through. I am still thinking about my stance at the moment as to wether to stay in APC or move to another party. Tactically, I believe in togetherness. United we stand, divided we fall, the more the merrier but I will draw my conclusion when I eventually get to meet with Senator Bukola Saraki. I have been receiving so many calls as per my next move as a major stakeholder from CPC to APC.
I will like to seize this opportunity to let my people know that I will call a meeting shortly to announce my decision.
How will you describe Governor Ahmed administration in Kwara State?
Well, he is doing his best as far as he is concerned, and as you will expect, there are shortcomings ,which is normal in any administration. The pace of building and developing should be faster and better in the quest to develop our state in no time. Kwara State is one of the oldest states in Nigeria so I expect it to be better than what it is currently.
What’s your comment about Senator Bukola Saraki’s leadership in Kwara State?
I must commend the leader, Senator Bukola Saraki for something though, he is on twitter and he responds to people, meaning he listens, so that’s a good thing. I will recommend public officers to emulate this form of interaction.
As a leader and a former governor, he must possess certain qualities to have served two terms and current senator of the Federal Republic. His wealth of experience is relevant. Senator Bukola Saraki will need to engage in an Herculean task of finding the right people to move Kwara State forward in terms of development and transformation.
I have never met him, although he sent me an invite a few weeks ago but I could not attend at that time because of prior engagements. However, I look forward to meeting with him.
More often than not, i’d rather draw my own conclusion than just echo people’s voices.
What areas do you want the government to intensify effort upon and where do you think there is gap that you may want to advise those in the corridor of power to bridge in the interest of growth and development of the country.?
Good question. The state is lacking in so many areas but I will like to draw their attention to a few .The women require a bit of attention. We need to look for ways to empower women in the area of entrepreneurial developments as well as including them to participate as public office. We certainly have women in Kwara State who can actually deliver.
Also the elderly, I would call them the senior citizens. Has the government thought about a way of keeping them relevant within the society? for instance, the government can develop some form of sustainable profit making venture through their recreational activities or hobbies, which is less demanding and that could generate funds. For instance, basket weaving, Pottery and other such things; in order to reduce their over dependence on their retirement benefits which sometimes they don’t get as at when due.
Most importantly,I will like the administration of Governor Ahmed to work tirelessly to create employment for the youths. Its unhealthy for the youths to be languishing in poverty with all their energy.
I will also want his administration to engage the youths even in agriculture, commerce etc we can actually make Kwara State a commercial hub. “A nation that can not feed itself will remain subservient to others. We can grow our own food in Kwara. The list is endless.
What is your advise to Kwarans?
I will like my people to remain steadfast, because all that is happening will be for our benefit in the long run . When it’s time to choose our leaders, let us choose wisely disregarding the initial gain but the long term benefit. We can not keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. “A stitch in time saves nine” Also, I will like the youths to come out and take charge of responsibility for our country and our future. If the kind hearted people are not interested in politics, who would fix our nation? my fellow Kwarans let their be love amongst us, Christians, Muslim males and femaless lets come together to fix our dear state and nation at large. May God help us.
