Kwara to Increase Security to Reduce Crime During Festivities

Date: 2013-12-13

The Police  in Kwara state said it has beefed up on security in order to further protect the lives and property of the citizens during and after Christmas and New Year celebrations.

This was revealed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Agboola Oshodi-Glover when he spoke with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday.

He said the command had arrested no fewer than eight suspected armed robbers and expects to arraign them soon and warned the people to shun any act of trial by ordeals saying that the law seriously frowned at such development.

''People should report any infractions or violation of their rights to the police; they should be vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activities to the police in their respective areas.

''Some of the security measures we have put in place include raiding of criminal hideouts, Indian hemp joints and brothels.

''Others are intensive motorised patrols, stop and search, intelligence gathering and swift response to distress calls.

''Many cyclists operating after the stipulated 9p.m. were arrested and several motorcycles, especially unregistered ones, impounded", he said.

He added that unregistered motorcycles, especially the ones suspected to have been used for criminal purposes, would be impounded and their owners investigated

He also advised youths to desist from using fireworks, stressing that anyone caught would be prosecuted.

Oshodi-Glover commended Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed for his support and donation of eight patrol vans labelled Operation Harmony to enhance security and peace in the state.
