The academic community has lost one of its leading lights, Samuel Adeyemi Oladosu, a former Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin as well as a former Dean, for many years, of the College of Business and Administrative Studies, Kaduna Polytechnic. A leading authority in Politics and Local Government, the late Oladosu was an alumnus of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the revered London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) where he bagged the first and second degrees respectively in Government and Political Science.
He also obtained a diploma from The Hague, Netherlands. After a brief stint in the civil service of the defunct Northern Nigeria, he joined the Kaduna Polytechnic from 1970 to 1983 during which he held various positions and was the Dean/Director of the Institution’s highly popular College of Administrative and Business Studies, (CABS). He joined the Kwara State Polytechnic in 1983 and was appointed Deputy Rector 1986 and Rector from 1990 to 1997.
During this period, the Polytechnic witnessed tremendous growth and achievements as well as considerable peace and harmony. Oladosu had many publications to his credit and served as External Examiner at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile –Ife, among others.
He was a speaker and facilitator at numerous seminars and symposia on Local Government and Politics in Nigeria. He authored Kaduna Essays in Local Government and undertook several assignments for different public institutions including the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).
An astute and seasoned Administrator, he assisted in the founding of and in executive-level recruitment for various Polytechnics and other Higher Institutions in the country. He was reputed for being humane, transparent, jovial, extremely simple and well loved by both staff and students, which accounted for the relative peace of Kwara State Polytechnic during his six-year tenure as Rector.
Oladosu was a devout Christian and a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and a graduant of her Bible College. He hailed from the royal family of Oba Olasamkale, Ifaja, in Omu Aran, Irepodun LGA, Kwara State. He was survived by his wife and several children. He was aged 75.
