October 26 Kwara LG Poll date remains unchanged - KWSIEC

Date: 2013-10-18

The Kwara Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) yesterday said the local government election scheduled for 26 October remains unchanged.

The  Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Uthman Abdulrahman Ajidagba disclosed this in IIorin while addressing a press conference as part of preparation for the poll.

He condemned what he described  as insinuations in some quarters that election date will be shifted following litigation in court against the conduct of the election.

Ajidagba said the commission is fully ready to comply with court directive or judgement regarding the conduct of the election.

The  chairman said only three political parties picked nomination forms and fielded candidates for the election.

The three political parties according to him are the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Labour Party (LP).

Ajidagba directed all political parties participating in the election to end their campaigns by 12 midnight of 25th October.

He advised residents in the state to abide with the law guiding the conduct of the election, warning that anybody caught in any infamous act will be dealt with accordingly.

The press conference was attended by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Oshodi Glover; the state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr, Gana Yerima and other stakeholders.
