IPP will improve power supply in Kwara - Ahmed
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said that the Independent Power Project embarked upon by the state government would greatly improve power supply in the state, especially in Ilorin.
He stated this in an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, stressing that the IPP would generate electricity to support basic essential services in the state such as water supply, hospitals, government secretariats and government functionaries.
He added that the energy currently being consumed in these areas would now be made available to the residents.
The governor stated that the IPP project would be driven by the Public Private Partner.
He added that the government would make the environment enabling for the prospective investors in the energy sector.
He said that the unbundling of the energy sector had made it possible for individuals to bring in their funds to generate electricity.
"Our responsibility as a government is to guarantee procurement of the energy being produced.
"We are articulating the volume of the energy that will be generated and we are trying to create an off-taking arrangement which will give the investors' confidence that they can invest their money, generate electricity, sell to government; and government can now pay for it and use it in all sectors," Ahmed said.
