Hausa community accuses Kwara govt of marginalisation

Date: 2015-02-03

The Hausa Community in Kwara has accused the state government of marginalisation in the implementation of policies and programmes.

The head of the community, Alhaji Mukhtar Tawakalitu, said on Monday in Ilorin that majority of the members of the community were born in the state and deserved to be recognised as indigenes.

"We see Kwara as our state because majority of us were born here, grew up here, do our businesses here and married here,’’ Tawakalitu said.

He said members of the community had not benefitted from the administration of Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The community leader cited the state’s employment scheme as one of the programmes that had not benefitted members of the community.

"None of my members for example has been considered for any of the state government empowerment programmes like Quickwin, KWABES and micro credit scheme.

"The Hausa community in Kwara has not felt the impact of this government; we have not benefitted from any dividend of democracy since 2011.

"Many of our children were never considered for admission and those that have graduated from the polytechnics and universities are jobless," Tawakalitu said.

He said the neglect informed the decision of the community to vote for PDP candidates in the February elections.

Tawakalitu also said leaders of the Hausa community in the 16 local governments had been directed to sensitise their members on the need to vote for the PDP.

He appealed to members of the community to embrace politics devoid of religious and ethnic sentiments, saying what Kwarans desire now is "freedom from political slavery."
