Jonathan's visit will liberate Kwara, says PDP

Date: 2014-03-02

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state has described the scheduled visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the state on Monday, as a visit that will mark “political liberation” of the state.

Chairman of the caretaker committee of the PDP, Solomon Edoga who spoke on behalf of the party while briefing newsmen on the programme of the visit said that as from the time of the visit, the state would change to be one where “Kwarans votes will count and will be counted.”

The president is billed to, in company of the national leadership of the PDP, visit the state on Monday, for the purpose of giving encouragement and support to membership mobilisation of the party in the state.

Edoga expressed optimism that a large number of people of the state would identify with the PDP during the visit and said this would lead to “breaking of shackles of bondage” in the state.

“The ground that President Goodluck Jonathan is coming to cultivate on Monday next week is politically very fertile one, and the harvest is going to be jumbo. It would be jumbo harvest when millions of Kwarans will identify themselves with the PDP.

“The shackles of bondage will finally be broken on that day, and the president is coming here to cut the freedom cake. After that, Kwara is now free. Every voice will now be heard. Decisions will become bottom-top approach.

“As from Monday, Kwarans votes will count and will be counted. The one man, one vote mantra will be in place in the state. Elections will now be based on the voice of the people.”

He disclosed that one of the activities that would be carried out of the day is the inauguration of the elders committee of the party, which would midwife all the processes that will lead to the elections of ward, local government and state executives of the party.

The PDP chairman, who said that the state government had been cooperating with the party on the planned visit, expressed hope that the state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed would be at the occasion to welcome the president.

Meanwhile the governor has called on politicians and their supporters to conduct themselves lawfully and avoid any action capable of disrupting the peace during the visit.

“Although the president is not on a state visit, we welcome him to our State of Harmony. We will accord him all the courtesies and arrangements benefitting of his office,” Ahmed said in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications,  Muyideen Akorede.
