Rape: Police arrest 12 students in Kwara.
No fewer than 12 students of tertiary institutions in Kwara State have been arrested by the police command for alleged rape related cases.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ambrose Aisabor, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali in his office.
Aisabor lamented that most criminal activities were being perpetrated by undergraduates and able-bodied youths, even as he tasked universities in the country to join hands with the police in fighting crime.
The police boss, who maintained that security is a collective responsibility, called on students, lecturers and traditional rulers, among others, to collaborate with the force in reducing the menace of insecurity.
His words: “When you go abroad, you discover that the success of their police is built on information sharing by the public. Information is vital to the police. The police cannot be effective without credible information. Development takes place only in an atmosphere of peace. That is why security is a collective responsibility. The police need the universities as much as the universities need the police. We should work harmoniously.”
Aisabor also reiterated that he was not posted to the state to do any dirty work for any political party, adding that his posting was routine and not politically motivated.
Responding, Ambali commended the Inspector General of Police for posting Aisabor to the state, describing the new CP as a symbol of hope for the police and the nation “because of his track record.”
Ambali, who tasked the police to be actively involved in crime prevention, control and management, stated that the police force is crucial to the sustenance of peace and harmony in the country.
He maintained that the University of Ilorin has zero tolerance for cultism, adding that the institution has reduced the menace to the barest minimum with the help and cooperation of the police and other security agencies
