Afenifere warns over Kwara electoral upheavals

Date: 2013-09-08

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has raised an alarm over the civil unrest that followed the Offa Local Government Election re-run in Kwara State, while warning all stakeholders to play the game by the rules to ensure the survival of democracy in the country.

Afenifere, in a press release signed by its Media/Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kunle Famoriyo, decried what it tagged “the impunity and political rascality demonstrated by Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC)”, saying such is no longer popular and will be resisted.

The group however called for peace in Kwara State and enjoined the aggrieved protesters to explore legal channels of resolving the conflict.

“It is gratifying to note that Afolabi Olawole, a PDP councillorship candidate, has shown a sign of patriotism, by denouncing the KWASIEC result,” the statement said.
