'NDLEA has convicted 21,871 drug traffickers in 23 years' - Oke

AUTHORITIES of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) in the country have convicted 21,871 drug traffickers across the country since the agency started its operations 23 years ago.

Besides, the agency said that over 3,434,966.23 narcotics drugs were seized under the year in review.

Speaking at the 2013 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, in Ilorin on Wednesday, the Kwara state commander of the agency, Mr. Segun Oke, said the breakdown of the drugs showed that,2,827,861.70kg of cannabis, 178,120.73kg of cocaine, 195,283,92kg of heroin and 233,699kg of psychotropic substances were seized, with Kwara state accounting for about 10,532kg within a time line of 10 years.
