'Collaborative efforts needed to address insecurity, corruption'
A former member of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, Mr. Simeon Oguntimehin, has said there is the need for more collaborative efforts between Nigerians and the government to address insecurity and corruption in the country.
He spoke to journalists in Ilorin on Friday during the commendation and thanksgiving service for late Mrs. Rachael Alao who died at the age of 67.
The deceased was the mother of a former employee of the Channels Television, Miss Toyin Alao.
Oguntimehin who is also the Gbogi of Ondo Kingdom urged all Nigerians to be more security-conscious; contribute their quota and assist the government to address insecurity and corruption in the country.
He said, "The government is trying to do something about insecurity. Security is not only one man's show. Every one of us need to be security-conscious. It is not government alone that can do it.
"Another serious issue about Nigeria is corruption. Just like insecurity, corruption is one thing that must be fought by everyone.
"No Government alone can fight it. We must be security-conscious and make sure the problems of insecurity and corruption are addressed."
Oguntimehin described the deceased as a reliable, dependable, hardworking, honest and good woman during her lifetime.
Also, a former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Adewusi, described the deceased as a good woman who lived a life worthy of emulation.
"The deceased lived a good life. She was a wonderful woman, very sociable and helpful. She was a very good house wife," Adewusi said.
