KWASIEC lifts ban on campaign for LG poll

The political transition process at local governments in Kwara State is underway as the state Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) on Wednesday has lifted the ban on political campaign in the state.

The chairman of the Commission, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba, made the proclamation while at a press briefing in Ilorin.

Ajidagba said the lifting of the ban marks the commencement of the activities for the conduct of 2013 local government election in the state.

 Notice is hereby given to all political parties, relevant stakeholders and general public that we hereby notify them of the commencement of 2013 Local Government electioneering activities , the chairman said.

Ajidagba added:  This is for the attention of all political Parties in Kwara, stakeholders, organizations and individuals to commence political activities .

The chairman said the commission will continue to monitor the activities of the political parties in the state in order to call them to order when the go astray.

Ajidagba who did not give the specific date the election will take place, gave assurance that the commission has perfected arrangement for the successful conduct of the election.

He solicited the cooperation and support of all political parties and other stakeholders for the successful council poll in the state.

The press briefing which was the maiden assignment of the commission since its inauguration by Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed last week Friday was attended by five commissioners of the commission.
