Establish More Varsities, FG Urged
A professor of Counselling Psychology, Sunday Harrison Umoh, has called on the Federal Government to establish more universities to cater for the huge number of youths that are denied access to available ones.
He lamented that despite the fact that Nigeria has many human and material resources, there is deficiency in skills workforce in almost all areas of the economy, warning that the deficiency would remain as long as many youths are denied access to education.
While delivering the 131st inaugural lecture of the University of Ilorin, Umoh said, “It is a well-known fact that year after year, 1.5million Nigerian youths sit for JAMB examination. All the 127 universities can cater for less than 300, 000. The remaining 1.3million are left unplanned for. They have no skills, no jobs and somehow cannot just disappear”.
