The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said the caretaker committee set up to run the affairs of the Action Congress of Nigeria  (ACN) in the state, “is incapable of solving the party’s crises due to deep-seated cleavages and conflicting ambitions of its leaders.”

The party made this known in a statement by its secretary, Prince Yemi Afolayan on the heels of recent appointment of a new caretaker committee to take over affairs of the party from the Kayode Olawepo-led executive. The disbanded executive had been locked in a battle of wits with the 2011 governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Mohammed Belgore, SAN.

The PDP maintained that the appointment of a new caretaker committee could not salvage the party from collapse, adding, “the fact that the new leadership of the party is headed by someone from outside Kwara State indicates that Kwara ACN is beyond recovery as the committee is out of touch with Kwara politics.”

But a member of the newly appointed ACN committee, Dr. Saad Omoiya, in a telephone chat with Daily Trust accused the PDP of sponsoring individuals to give a semblance of disagreement in the party, adding that contrary to the PDP’s thinking, ACN “is effective and waxing stronger in the state.”
