Stop Interfering in Investigation of Crimes, KWSG Warns Officials
The Kwara State Government has issued a strongly-worded warning to public officers in the state to stop interfering with investigations of crimes and suspected criminals by security agencies, stressing that it would henceforth interpret any such act as aiding and abetting of criminals in the state.
The warning was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Alhaji S.I Gold, and addressed to political office holders and top civil servants.
“Information reaching the state government paints a gloomy picture of undue interference of public office holders in the affairs of security operatives seeking to rid the state of undesirable elements”, the state government stated in the memo.
“They interfere in the course of arrest of suspected criminals. This act, to say the least, is tantamount to sabotage and a deliberate attempt to circumvent the effort of government and bring it to disrepute.
“The present administration will not succumb to blackmail and will go extra mile to deal decisively with enemies of progress. Any public officer caught abetting criminals would be classified as a criminal.
“Public officeholders that have penchant for this ungodly conduct are advised to desist forthwith and join government in its avowed duty to make Kwara State crime-free”, the memo noted.
Government therefore, warned public officers to desist from any act that could hamper the course of justice and security of the state, stressing that no public officer would be spared if caught in an unholy romance with criminals in whatever guise.
According to the memo, government would leave no stone un-turned in the task of maintaining peace and tranquility in the state.
It assured the public that government would not shirk its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and properties of the citizenry.
The Secretary to the State Government directed heads of government ministries, departments and parastatals to bring the content of the memo to the notice of every civil servant and political appointee.
