Court Remands Man, 24, for Alleged Robbery
An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court last week remanded a 24-year-old man, Aliyu Umaru, in prison custody for alleged robbery.
The accused and others, now at large, were alleged to have robbed one Umoru Ibrahim of N150, 000 and one cellphone on April 12, at Kara Market in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara.
According to the charge sheet, the victim was attacked by a gang of armed robbers numbering about five while returning from the market.
It said that as a result, the victim had deep cuts on his head and left hand, while he later died in the hospital.
The charge sheet also said the bandits abandoned their unregistered motorcycles at the scene when they sighted security guards coming to the victim’s rescue.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Funsho Zacheaus, told the court that the accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy.
He said the offence contravened section 97 of the penal code law and section 1(2) of the Armed Robbery Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Zacheaus objected to bail for the accused on the grounds that the alleged offences were not ordinarily bailable.
Magistrate Bello Ibrahim, in his ruling, ordered that the accused be remanded in Mondala Prison, Ilorin, and adjourned the case for mention.
