Insecurity: Northerners Migrate to Kwara
The state of insecurity in some parts of the country may have brought about the presence of people from the North in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
These “migrants” engage in farming on river banks and fishing. They also engage in menial jobs like petty trading.
They are also seen selling farm products like pepper of diverse types and onions. Some of them hawk fruits in carts that they push around the town even till late in the evening.
Investigation by National Mirror revealed that the people came from Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Bauchi states.
Those from Nassarawa and Plateu states majorly engage in farming outside Ilorin.
They are in places like Moro, Asa, Ifelodun and Irepodun local government areas.
Those from Kano are believed to be selling fabrics in Ilorin.
It was also learnt that many Kwara State indigenes, who have lived for many years in the far North, have started returning home.
Some of the indigenes decided to relocate to states such as Osun, Ekiti and Ondo.
According to National Mirror investigation, the presence of the people from the North in Kwara has boosted the economic activities of the state.
