PDP chairmanship: Saraki makes case for consensus candidate

Date: 2012-03-12

Sen. Bukola Saraki, the immediate past governor of Kwara State has advised delegates to the convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to work towards electing a consensus candidate as the new chairman, rather than approaching it in a do-or-die manner. The former governor also observed that it was crucial for the convention to produce a competent person as the party's chairman. Saraki, who spoke in Ilorin, at the weekend, disclosed that arrangements had been concluded to ensure the party had a successful convention. All we know is that, as a party, we need to get a good candidate who can unite the party.

A candidate who is well-respected and one that can move the party forward. There are lots of challenges for the party at present. There are also lots of challenges for the government that require the party's support.
