An Ilorin Magistrate Court yesterday remanded a 22-year-old man, Shola Bayo of No. 75, Awodi Area, Ilorin, at Federal Prison, Oke-kura, Ilorin, for allegedly selling substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

Bayo was arrested on March 25 at Ojagboro/ Karumo Junction, by Yusuff Jubril on behalf of Karumo, Ojagboro and Alfa-Bako Communities, Ilorin and handed him over to the police.

They alleged him of selling Indian hemp and when a search was conducted on him, 23 wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered in his possession.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ilorin revealed that the accused is a sales boy to one Lanre a.k.a Gulder now at large.

The FIR added that Bayo engaged in selling Indian hemp in large and small quantity to notorious robbers and cultists at Karumo, Ojagboro and its environs before they proceeded to commit dastard act.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and sales on weeds suspected to be Indian hemp contrary to sections 97 an d 3 of Indian hemp act.

The prosecutor, Sergent Jubrin Alhassan, who informed the court that investigation into the matter was yet to be completed, objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody pending the outcome of the investigation.

The magistrate, Mrs. I.O Olawoyin agreed with the submission of the prosecutor and remanded him at the Federal Prison, Oke-kura, Ilorin, until April 25 when the matter will come up for further mention.
