Saraki, son, daughter reconcile
Ilorin -The dispute between the former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki and his father, Dr. Olusola Saraki, over who called the shots in the state has been resolved.
Sources said the Sarakis were reconciled by close family members including some of their in-laws leading to a situation whereby the duo have been playing roles in the government of Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The father and son fell out over who should succeed the younger Saraki as governor after he had served two terms in office.
Dr. Olusola Saraki, the Senate Leader in the Second Republic and strongman of Kwara politics, wanted his son to support his sister, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, to take over as governor, but his son felt otherwise.
‘’Furthermore, Gbemisola Saraki, who lost the gubernatorial election has also forgiven her brother over his perceived disloyalty to his father and the family who installed him as the governor in 2003 and both have become friends once more,” the sources said.
With the latest development, Vanguard was reliably informed that, apart from nominating about 30 per cent of would- be commissioners, the former governor’s father has now been given the mandate to vet all the names to be forwarded to the House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners this week. even as the new helmsman, Governor Ahmed had never failed to openly acknowledge the fact that the ‘’elder Saraki is still the undisputed political leader in the state, while his former boss is his mentor and benefactor.
”Oloye, (as the elder Saraki is popularly called) is hale and hearty, though presently overseas, has also vetted all the names of the incoming cabinet members as compiled by his son, Dr Bukola Saraki, and the leadership of the PDP in the state.
‘’It is good enough that Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed has, since he assumed the leadership position in the state, never failed to acknowledge the leadership role of the elder statesman to the people of the state and Nigeria at large.
‘’The new Chief of Staff was indeed, recommended for the position by Oloye. He was an elected chairman of Ilorin-West Local Government and former ALGON Chairman in the state before his recent appointment,” added the source.
