ASUU Alleges Police Harassment of Delegates

Date: 2013-03-08

The national leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has condemned the deployment of police to prevent ASUU national delegation from entering the University of Ilorin.

A statement by the leader of ASUU visitation panel to Ilorin, Dr. Kola Babarinde and UNILORIN ASUU Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Oloruntoba-Oju yesterday decried the "retrogressive conduct of police and security men at the university which barred thirty-two (32) ASUU delegates from gaining formal entry into their university to conduct a congress."

"Despite prior notice to the university administration and request for courtesy call which the DVC Management Services, Professor Oladele called off on the excuse that the VC is not around and that he has no mandate, all ASUU vehicles were prevented from entering UNILORIN by the university security men, and armed mobile and regular policemen," the statement said.
