The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has called for proper profiling and registration of all tricycle and motorcycle operators by relevant government and security agencies in Ilorin.

The union expressed concern over the increasing influx of diverse groups of individuals into the Ilorin metropolis and its surrounding communities.

The call formed part of the resolutions reached during a stakeholders' meeting organised by the union at the IEDPU National Secretariat in Garin Alimi.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Suleiman Dagbo, the union also called for stronger collaboration between transport unions and security agencies across the Ilorin Emirate.

IEDPU further urged the strict enforcement of the 9:00 p.m. operational limit for motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle operators as a preventive security measure.

According to the union, there have been growing allegations that some unscrupulous tricycle operators sometimes connive with criminals, particularly during the night.

The group also called for community sensitisation and improved intelligence sharing among residents and security agencies.

It urged security operatives to enhance surveillance and monitoring of identified flashpoints and abandoned structures across the emirate with a view to preventing criminal activities.
