Kwara College of Education, Oro Reopens as Government Declares Security Situation Improved
The Kwara State College of Education, Oro, in Irepodun Local Government Area, has resumed academic and administrative activities following a directive from the state government citing significantly improved security conditions.
The reopening was conveyed in an internal memorandum referenced CEO/ADMIN/27/Vol.1/268, dated 2 February 2026, and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Publicity, Mrs Lawal Taibat Saka-Bolanta.
The memo, issued from the Registrar's office, reads in part: "In line with the directive of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, I write to inform staff and students of the re-opening of the college with immediate effect."
It directed that academic and administrative activities should commence immediately and expressed appreciation to the state government, the Ministry of Tertiary Education, and other stakeholders for their support.
The resumption follows Sunday's announcement by the Kwara State Government that all schools in the state would reopen from Monday, 2 February 2026, after months of closure triggered by heightened insecurity.
The government, through the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, stated that the security situation had improved considerably, though vigilance would be maintained while ongoing operations consolidate recent gains and strengthen community resilience.
The College of Education, Oro, had been shut down weeks earlier due to direct security threats in the area, forcing students to evacuate and halting academic activities.
The development is part of the broader reopening of educational institutions across Kwara State, which had seen primary and secondary schools closed since November 2025 as a precautionary measure against bandit attacks, especially in border and forested communities.
The state government has assured residents that sustained military operations have neutralised several criminal elements, restored relative calm, and that security agencies remain deployed with enhanced intelligence and community engagement to prevent any resurgence of threats.
