University of Ilorin - ASUU Hails Court for Sacking Exco

Date: 2013-02-19

The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has hailed the National Industrial Court (NIC) for its judgment sacking the illegal executives of the ASUU at the University of Ilorin led by Professor Wahab Egbewole.

ASUU and Unilorin have been battling over recognition of the authentic executives with the varsity authorities backing the Egbewole faction against the Dr Taiwo Oloruntoba-oju executives recognised by ASUU.

But the National Industrial Court sitting in Lagos in its ruling on February 13 consequent upon the suit filed by the national leadership of ASUU declared the Egbewole faction as illegal and unconstitutional.

A release by ASUU president, Dr Nasir Fagge hailed the judgment asking the varsity authorities to uphold rule of law.

Fagge also lashed out at the Unilorin authorities for withholding the salaries and entitlements of reinstated ASUU 49 lecturers despite court order saying it portends danger for Nigeria.
