Date: 2025-09-29

The committee established to develop a blueprint for the harmonious coexistence of the Kwara State College of Education (COED), Ilorin, and the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin, has formally submitted its report to the State Government.

Receiving the report in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu, commended the committee for carrying out what she described as a thorough and well-detailed assignment.

She promised to forward the document to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for immediate consideration and action, and assured that the recommendations would be implemented to the letter.

The Commissioner also lauded Governor AbdulRazaq for providing all the necessary logistics that enabled the smooth execution of the assignment, expressing optimism that the report would bring immense benefits to both institutions and the state's education sector at large.

A statement by Omotayo Ayanda, the Press Secretary, quoted her saying "The establishment of KWASUED by Governor AbdulRazaq is aimed at expanding access to university education, producing more qualified teachers, and aligning the State's educational growth with national goals."

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Abdulrahman Tunde Sidiq, expressed profound gratitude to Gov. Abdulrazaq for his visionary leadership in establishing KWASUED and for approving the constitution of the Coexistence Committee.

He said the confidence reposed in the members to handle the critical task was a great source of motivation. Sidiq also appreciated the Commissioner for inaugurating the Committee and providing the enabling environment and guidance throughout the process.

He extended gratitude to the management of both COED and KWASUED for their cooperation, hospitality, and provision of facilities that allowed the Committee to host its meetings seamlessly on their campuses, noting that the outcome of the assignment was a comprehensive, evidence-based, and forward-looking document.

"We strongly believe that if the recommendations are critically studied and faithfully implemented, they will not only strengthen peaceful coexistence between the two institutions but also lay a solid foundation for the sustainable growth and development of teacher education in Kwara State," he said.

The Committee also prayed for the early establishment of the permanent site of KWASUED to further consolidate the Governor's vision for educational transformation in the state.

In their separate remarks, a Council Member of KWASUED, Kuburat Kazeem, the Registrars of COED and KWASUED, Yakubu Mohammed and Mohammed Jimada Jubril respectively, as well as the Chairman of COEASU. Yahaya Ndagi, commended Governor Abdulrazaq for prioritising staff welfare, especially the offset of outstanding debts owed to the college staff. They pledged to sustain a harmonious working relationship for the overall betterment of the State.

The Coexistence Committee, inaugurated on August 18, 2025, was a 13-member body comprising government officials, union leaders, and senior officers of both institutions.
