Kwara Police Expose Viral 'Ghost Town' Video as Fabricated Panic Campaign in Ganmu Village
Kwara State Police Command has categorically denied viral social media claims that residents of Ganmu Ahileri village (near Babanla, Ifelodun LGA) abandoned their community due to bandit attacks, dismissing the "Ghost Town" narrative as deliberate misinformation designed to incite panic.
In a firm statement, the Command confirmed an armed attack occurred on 31 July 2025 where two travelers (Alhaji Abdulrazak Ewenla and Jimoh Audu) were killed and three others kidnapped during a flat-tyre repair near Ganmu but emphatically denied mass evacuation:
"While a criminal incident did occur, the portrayal of Ganmu Ahileri as abandoned is false. Residents continue normal activities, and security has been significantly reinforced. This viral video seeks to destabilise public confidence."
The Command warned citizens to reject unverified content and report suspicious activity, noting that coordinated patrols with military and vigilante units now secure the area following the attack. Authorities are investigating the video's originators for inciting public disorder.
"The attackers also abducted Kazeem Ajide, Wahidi, and Mufutau ,surnames of the latter two yet to be confirmed, to an unknown location", according to a statement by the Spokesperson of the Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi in Ilorin, yesterday.
"Upon receipt of the report, tactical operatives, including a combined team of Police personnel, the Military, and local vigilantes were immediately deployed to the scene.
"Contrary to claims in the viral video, the armed security presence in the area as seen in the clip, represents the coordinated deployment of law enforcement agents to restore confidence, maintain public safety, and ensure the rescue of kidnapped victims. This effort has since restored normalcy to the area", the statement added.
The Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing, and every effort is being made to rescue the abductees unhurt and apprehend the perpetrators.
The statement asserted that the Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
