KWASSIP Targets 7,000 Households with N100k Financial Aid in Livelihood Support Scheme
The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) has announced plans to provide N100,000 to 7,000 households under its ongoing financial assistance scheme.
The Kwara State Government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining social investment initiatives to improve livelihoods across the state. Dr Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, General Manager of KWASSIP, made the pledge during an inter-ministerial press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Communications at the Finance Ministry's conference room in Ilorin.
Dr Tejidini stated that KWASSIP aims to expand its safety net to support additional households and communities in all 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kwara State.
According to him, the social investment programme is an integral part of any positive-minded government, being one of the avenues that can be used in alleviating poverty and social inequality in the state and the country at large.
The General Manager maintained that social investment provides the citizens a level playing field where those at the bottom of the economic ladder can be provided with palliatives to enhance their purchasing power and financial independence.
Dr Tejidini pointed out that KWASSIP reached out to 20,000 individuals engaging in skilled and unskilled labour across the state to boost their productivity and stability with the sum of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) each.
He noted that petty traders drawn from different communities across the LGAs were also given the sum of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) each from the financial intervention programme designed to support and promote local economic activities in the state.
The General Manager elucidated that the ongoing Household Support Programme that was rolled out in the first quarter of the year is a Financial Assistance Scheme targeted at uplifting low income families to boost their financial situation so as to cater for their fundamental needs, Dr Tejidini revealed that 7,000 households are under this category and each beneficiary will be given a sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000).
