Group Intervenes in Kwara Communal Crisis
A pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Group, has intervened in the communal clashes between Offa and Erin-Ile communities in Kwara State.
In a statement on Thursday, COSEG said the intervention was to halt the killings and destruction of properties in the two communities.
The two border towns were said to have renewed hostilities recently after a long ceasefire, leaving several people dead and others either displaced or maimed.
The statement jointly signed by Dayo Ogunlana and Razaq Olokoba, Chairman and General Secretary respectively, said “an intervention and reconciliation committee led by Moses Olafare and Sola Olatunde has held a meeting with the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, (Ilufemiloye 11).
“He was represented by Eesa of Offa (his deputy), Chief Yinusa Bukoye and Elerin-Ile of Erin-Ile, Oba Abdul-Ganiyu Ajibola, with a view to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.”
The statement said the monarchs had a fruitful discussion with the committee, adding that “after the meeting, wider consultations have commenced by the committee with notable stakeholders in Yorubaland”.
