Kwara State Government Commended for Advancing Transportation System with Technology
The Kwara State Government has received commendation for its remarkable strides in modernizing the state's transportation system through the use of advanced technology.
The Kwara State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, was praised for the initiative while hosting the General Manager of the Kwara State Automated Vehicle Inspection Service (KWAVIS), Dr. Segun Ogunnaike, and his team at his office.
Hon. Korasabi expressed satisfaction with KWAVIS's contributions to the development of the state's transportation sector, particularly in the area of vehicle maintenance and road safety.
He further emphasized Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to achieving robust and sustainable growth in the transport sector and assured that the Ministry of Transportation will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to achieve its objectives.
He, therefore, charged the Centre to continue discharging their duties responsibly, as observed, while assuring that more professionals and students from all the technical institutions in the State would be enrolled to benefit from KWAVIS, for the continuity and sustainability of the Centre.
The State Commissioner for Transportation urged citizens of the State, especially commuters and transporters, to complement the State Government's effort by patronizing the Centre, for servicing of their vehicles and for training.
On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Hon. Ibrahim Orire, called on KWAVIS and the management of the Ministry to synergize more, stressing that the State expects a rapid turn around in the Kwara State transportation sector.
In his opening remarks, the Director Transportation, Planning and Coordination, Engr. Joshua Durotoye, appreciated the Centre for its visit, recounted a few of its successes recorded over the years and reiterated the need to do more.
Earlier, in his address, the Board Chairman, KWAVIS, Chief, Olushola Richard, praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his proactiveness in having an independent Transportation Ministry for the State; the action he said would allow the concentration of energy and purpose for the smooth discharge of responsibilities, capable of yielding fruitful results for Kwara.
In his address, the General Manager, KWAVIS, Dr. Segun Ogunnaike, who congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment, disclosed that the Centre was birthed out of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's zeal towards improving the safety of lives of residents and averting automobile accidents often caused by improper maintenance of vehicles and disobedience to traffic regulations.
Dr. Ogunnaike stressed the value chain the Centre possesses and sought for the continued collaboration with all the relevant Ministries Directorates and Agencies, like IV-TECH at Ajase-Ipo amongst others, to facilitate rapid actualization of the vision and goals for which the Transportation Ministry was created.
He equally urged the State government to consider having a State Owned Mechanic Village, where apprentices and other mechanics at various local workshops could be trained and have more insights on the use of new technology of servicing vehicles, while reducing human stress, thereby improving efficiency and generating more revenue for the State.
In his vote of thanks, the Director, Mechanical Services, Engr Olayinka Busari, commended the General Manager and his team for their contribution to positioning the Kwara State transport sector and appreciated the award presented to the Commissioner.
At the meeting were, the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Hajia Medinat Ajao; Director, Planning Research and Statistics, Alh. Bello Mohammed; Director, Rail, Road and Water Ways, Engr. Solomon Oyinloye; and other management staff of the Ministry, including the KWAVIS team.
