Hajia Modibbo Kawu Stresses Government's Focus on Tertiary Education Development
The Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Kwara State, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu, has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to delivering quality education.
Hajia Modibbo Kawu made this declaration during a meeting with a delegation from the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), led by its Chairman, Comrade Yahaya Muhammed Ndagi, at her office in Ilorin.
The commissioner highlighted the administration's dedication to educational advancement, citing the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin , as a flagship initiative demonstrating the government's resolve to improve standards in the sector. This institution, she stated, embodies the state's vision of fostering academic excellence and expanding access to higher education opportunities for residents.
According to her, establishment of the Kwara State University of Education is a proof to Governor AbdulRazaq's passion for qualitative education, saying that “this administration is committed to creating more opportunities for higher learning, ensuring that students and academic staff benefited from a well-structured and forward-thinking educational system.”
Hajia Modibbo Kawu who further assured that the Kwara state Government is taking all necessary steps to address the concerns of COEASU and the entire college community.
According to her, the Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, values the contributions of the academic staff and remains committed to their professional growth and the development of the educational institutions in the state.
The Hon. Commissioner who again reassured COEASU that Governor AbdulRazaq, is known for his proactive and responsive leadership, saying that the Governor would attend to all their requests accordingly.
Earlier in his own comments, the chairman of COEASU, Comrade Yahaya Ndagi expressed gratitude to the state government for the prompt payment of salaries and allowances which of cause contributed to the smooth academic operations of the college.
The (COEASU) chairman, however used the opportunity to highlight several pressing issues that requiring immediate attention, particularly concerning the status of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, which should be in line with the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education.
The chairman further stressed, the need for a clear transition framework and the urgency of addressing leadership vacancies, among other concerns.
Meanwhile, the National Universities Commission (NUC) officially recognized the university on July 30, 2024, marking it as the 64th state-owned university and 274th in Nigeria. While in November 2024, the Executive Governor of Kwara state Mall. Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq inaugurated the university's Governing Council, appointing Professor Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem as its chairman and pro-chancellor, facilitating the institution's official takeoff.
