Kwara NCS Boss Calls for Relocation of Overcrowded Oke-Kura Custodial Centre
Famuwagun Oyediran, the newly appointed Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) in Kwara State, has expressed concerns regarding the current location of the Oke-Kura Custodial Centre in Ilorin, the state capital.
During a visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Saba Jibril, on Wednesday in Ilorin, Famuwagun highlighted that the facility is severely overpopulated, posing significant health risks to inmates. He described the situation as precarious and urged the state government to consider relocating the custodial centre to a more spacious site capable of meeting its operational requirements.
The controller emphasised the need for improved conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of both inmates and staff.
The new controller, however, acknowledged the support of the state government, particularly the drilling of boreholes at the Oke-Kura Custodial Centre, which has significantly eased the burden of water provision.
In response, Professor Mamman pledged the government's continued support for the state command of the Nigeria Correctional Service.
The Secretary to the State Government commended the mutual working relationship between the government and the state command of the correctional service, assuring that the government would not waver in its support and assistance to facilitate operations in the state.
Professor Mamman also promised that the government would consider the controller's requests to enhance service delivery, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Murtala Atoyebi, in Ilorin on Wednesday.
