Kwara Govt Urges Speedy Completion of Sobi Waterworks to Boost Water Supply
The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the Sobi Waterworks rehabilitation project, urging contractor Adegboyega Durojaye-Hydro Gold Limited to accelerate work and prevent potential damage from the impending rainy season.
State Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade, provided this assurance during an on-site assessment of the project, stating that the rehabilitation aims to enhance water supply for Ilorin and surrounding areas. Represented by Permanent Secretary Christiana Omolola Asonibare, the commissioner underscored the urgency of completing the works, highlighting that a significant portion of the population depends on the facility as their main source of potable water.
Responding, Louis Onome Obukohwo, Project Manager – Hydro Gold Limited, pledged to complete the foundation treatment within a week.
He explained that proper and reinforced foundation work was essential to preventing a recurrence of the previous flood disaster that severely damaged the facility, assuring that refilling the waterworks entrance -washed away by the flood would also be completed within a week.
These measures, he noted, would fortify the facility against future flooding and other potential hazards.
Obukohwo, also pledged that the project would be delivered on schedule and in line with the contract specifications, ensuring high-quality execution.
