100 Kwara Women Trained, Empowered in Fish Farming
Around 100 women from Edu, Moro, and Patigi local government areas of Kwara State have received training and empowerment in fish farming as part of the "Renewed Hope Empowerment" initiative.
The program, organized by the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research in collaboration with the Member representing Edu, Moro, and Patigi Federal Constituency, Mallam Ahmed Saba, provided participants with essential tools, inputs, and cash grants to help them achieve self-reliance in the agricultural sector.
Mallam Saba highlighted the importance of the initiative in promoting economic empowerment among women and boosting the aquaculture sector in the state.
The goal is to lift women out of poverty through sustainable fish farming.
Mallam Saba, who addressed the distribution event in Shonga, explained that the primary objective was to lift women out of poverty through sustainable fish farming.
Mallam Saba, who was represented at the even by Mallam Muhammed Salihu, also said the women were carefully selected and trained in various aspects of fish farming.
Similarly, the women were encouraged to pass on their skills to family and community members in order to spread economic prosperity.
Lasisi Opeyemi, the team leader from the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Procurement and Planning Units, expressed satisfaction with the quality of training the women had undergone.
Mr Opeyemi said the provision of cash grants and other working tools would enable beneficiaries to start their business immediately.
Alhaja Alasinrin Abdulkadir, the coordinator and consultant of the training firm, Tripad Engineering and Construction, urged the beneficiaries to use the items wisely to improve their lives, rather than selling them off.
The donated items included 5000-litre capacity plastic ponds, 1000 juvenile fish, fish feed, and cash grants.
