Jela's Development Initiatives Holds Mental Health Discourse with Kwara Stakeholders
Jela's Development Initiatives (JDI), a non-profit organisation, has hosted a strategic policy meeting with stakeholders in Kwara State to address mental health issues affecting students and teachers.
The event, themed “Strategic Policy Meeting for Health and Education Stakeholders”, brought together representatives from key educational institutions to discuss strategies for promoting mental well-being within schools.
In a statement, the organisation emphasized the importance of mental health in fostering effective learning and teaching environments. The engagement was seen as a step towards improving health and education policies in the state.
The educational bodies included personnel from Ministry of Education through the UNESCO Desk, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), principals and teachers from 26 schools across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State.
Angela Omeiza, Founder of JDI in the statement, said that the objective of the meeting was to foster dialogue on mental health integration within the educational sector and to review the impact of JDI's teachers' training on mental health awareness and advocacy for effective curriculum delivery.
