Reps Call for Urgent Federal Intervention on Oyo-Ogbomoso-Kwara Highway
As reported by Nigerian Tribune, the House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate the Oyo-Ogbomoso-Kwara highway, which serves as a critical link between northern and southern Nigeria."
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Ayodeji Alao-Akala, who sought immediate intervention on the critical infrastructure.
In his lead debate, Hon. Alao-Akala underscored the essential role the highway plays as a vital link between northern and southern Nigeria, with substantial daily traffic carrying both people and goods. He stressed that the deteriorating state of the road has led to significant bottlenecks, hindering socioeconomic activities and posing safety risks to Nigerians who rely heavily on the route.
The lawmaker emphasised the need for prompt rehabilitation to restore the highway's functionality and ease the daily struggles of commuters.
Hon. Alao-Akala called on the Ministry of Works to prioritise the road's repair to alleviate the economic challenges faced by Nigerian traders and travellers.
The motion was subsequently voted on, adopted, and referred to the joint Committee on Works and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for further legislative action.
