IEDPU Urges Ilorin Emirate Residents to Avoid Physical Protests
According to a news report from Leadership, the Ilorin Emirate Development Progressive Union (IEDPU) has urged the indigenes and residents of Ilorin Emirate, along with other Nigerians, especially the youth, to refrain from participating in any form of physical demonstration against the government.
The national president of IEDPU, Alhaji AbdulMumini AbdulMalik, made this appeal in a statement he personally signed. The community leader, acknowledging the difficult circumstances faced by many Nigerians, cautioned that any form of physical demonstration would exacerbate the situation by disrupting economic activities.
AbdulMalik, a retired assistant comptroller-general of the Nigeria Immigration Service, noted that the government is well aware of the prevailing hardships due to the numerous opinions expressed in conventional and social media by concerned Nigerians and institutions. He expressed confidence that the government is working towards addressing these challenges in the best interest of all.
He recalled that the anti-SARS protest that was carried out across the nation a few years ago left many Nigerians poorer as it also claimed the lives and properties of many innocent Nigerians.
AbdulMalik, who commended the government and organised labour for agreeing on a new minimum wage for workers, enjoined the government to swiftly address the challenge of the consistent inflation that has left millions of Nigerians pauperised.
The community leader insisted that the government must ensure that lesser amount of money is being spent on governance and issues that have no economic significance to the populace .
He added that if elected and appointed public officials continually engaged the people in consistent conversations and their earnings are considerably reviewed downward the public would definitely be assuaged.
AbdulMalik also called on other community, opinion as well as religious leaders and other well-meaning individuals to join in taming the youth to give peace a chance and give the government the benefit of the doubt.
