Opinion: Is Kwara state really smooth-sailing through developments?

Date: 2013-01-19

By Diran Ebo

The PDP led government of Kwara state has built around itself a thick wall of deception! Living in a constant world of delusion. I mean, wouldn't it be like living in a dreamland if everyone kept quiet like nothing is wrong with Kwara state; like this government is flawless, like this government is really cruising developmentally, raising the living standard of Kwarans. 'Smooth sailing' like the commissioner of information would love to say! I wouldn't deny the fact that the government has a bit of reconstruction, renovation and new construction projects going on; the general hospitals, some bridges, lots of borehole drilling... I'll say kudos to continuity of non-impacting, self/crony benefiting projects.

In a state with uncountable bad roads, numerous villages without electrification, countless number of villages without water supply, pipe borne/borehole; you get to start wondering what indices these PDP government house big boys use in measuring development/standard of living to reach those nauseating conclusions of theirs; 'Kwara state is working; governor Ahmed is cruising'.. You would be shocked to know all the people representing this government either on twitter or paper/tv media are actually well read wonderful individuals. I don't know about you, but I think it on regular basis; are they for real? Could the commissioner of information really mean all these hard to believe (not so true) stories he tells us on twitter/radio? Could Dr Femi Akorede who obviously knows little of Kwara/Kwarans argue about Kwara issues and win? Could they be telling the truth when they say to us, 'Diran you are lying, no LG in Kwara State has sacked any of its staff'? When in fact you see affected staffs all about complaining!! Makes you wonder if the originator of the saying; 'elders don't lie' was in fact under the influence of alcohol when he penned down that saying.

Governance is all charade in Kwara state. A state where an ex-governor spits on our faces and rubs it on.  ABS was governor for 8yrs, he had the time, chance and power to fix all the roads in Kwara state but he chose not to, hiding under the pretext; 'they are federal roads'. Last year, a fatal accident occurred and claimed many lives. ABS was seen at the spot awhile after paying last respect; I bet the accident might have been avoidable if those roads have been tended to by his administration in the first place. This same ABS said on twitter awhile ago that 8yrs wasn't enough to clear all the mess/rot the previous administrations left him. I bet ABS would need a life time to get started on Kwara State!! Sad thing is, all these incompetent persons ruling us display a high level of nonchalance, lack of political will/commitment to effect a positive change in the lives of Kwarans therefore depicting a terrible anti-people trait.

Hear me out; how can you as the head look away while your leg rots in pain? Most of the months last year, several Kwara State LG government staff had to live for months without wages for work done, the governor stood by and did nothing while the LG boss and the government house big boys traded words with us on twitter on whose responsibility it was. A civil servant is of course never to be heard, so this heinous, despicable act went unnoticed by the world while many suffered in silence! Yet, the PDP led government of Kwara state wants people to just spectate, laugh about this misrule, look away from this tyranny, shy away from this nepotistic form of governance!! In a state where communities contribute money to fix their roads, fix their water supply system, either use generators or pay NEPA to electrify their homes; Kwara state government sponsors media 'karimi' noise of on-paper virtual development schemes. Yet, they try to gag us telling us to be constructive... Constructivism my ass!

I believe the commissioner of information would soon say it's just the opinion of Diran Ebo and some other members of the opposition. He can go deluding himself of what trophies of developmental victories he thinks Kwara state has garnered; the truth and facts are out there to prove Kwara state is losing the war on daily basis!! There is an acute increase in the rate of unemployment, poverty is on the rise, lots of senior citizens have turn destitute, parents can’t pay school fees, the Kwara State salary scheme is a total package for a slave industry. Yet, the Kwara state government house big boys are throwing around slangs like, 'Kwara state is smooth sailing', 'Governor Ahmed is cruising'.

Take a genuine opinion poll of how Kwarans feel about this government and you would be shocked to know this; the PDP led government of Kwara state is either totally ignorant of the toiling and suffering plights of its people or has chosen to deliberately look away!

While your attack dog go calling us 'jobless hacks'; it might do you all some good to know that it is due to you people's lack of commitment to the plight of the people you swore to serve that we are jobless, and maybe on the other hand; you are the ones who have run out of ideas on how to serve your people. You got plenty of time monitoring people's lives to know they are jobless! Who then is the jobless one? Really, is this the caliber of self acclaimed visionaries leading Kwara people! What a jobless, vision-less, unserious, blind lot!!
